LG Front Load Washer Dryer – Major Complaints

LG front load washer dryer

The LG front load washer dryer is a high efficiency unit that works by forcing the water through the clothes rather than swirling the clothes through the water. This is a much better cleaning system for clothes. Additionally, capacity is increased as there is no agitator, the tower in the middle of top load washer. Water usage is decreased as the clothes are weighed and the computer determines the correct amount of water for the load. That being said, there are complaints common to all front load washers.

Leaking and Smell – Bad odors emanating from front load washers are a common complaint. There is a rubber seal in the front of the LG that needs to be cleaned to keep it water tight. The manufacturer recommends after each load or after completing the laundry for the day to wipe the interior door down and then to take clean cloth and wipe the interior seal down making sure to clean out the interior portion of the seal. The seal has a split feature with small holes that can trap lint, hair and allow water to leak out. It is also recommended that you clean the filter for the washer out once a month because it can collect hair, lint and strings from your laundry that can cause odors to be trapped in your washer. This is relatively easy to do on the LG front load washer dryer; the small door on the front of the unit allows easy access to clean out this filter. Running the washer through a rinse cycle with a 1/2 cup of vinegar also will keep any odor at bay.

Bad odors coming out of a LG front load washer dryer can come from using a liquid fabric softener. The only way to stop the smell is to give up the liquid and switch to sheets. You can run your machine with detergent mixed with borax. Then run a cycle with vinegar. If that doesn’t work, wash a few loads of whites with Clorox. As long as you stop the liquid fabric softener and run several of the suggested cleaning cycles, the odor will dissipate and not return. Also, leave your washer door open to dry out after you are done using it for a while. Front loaders are designed to be air tight so the water doesn’t leak out, so if you don’t leave the door open you are going to have mold growth issues.

With heavily soiled and stinky clothes, the clothes do not smell good after coming out washer or the dryer, even after putting on the fabric softener. To solve this issue, press the extra "rinse" button that gives you another rinse cycle.

Regular laundry detergent does not work well in a LG front load washer dryer. If you use regular detergent, in about 2 to 3 weeks your clothes will start smelling of mildew. Just like when you put damp clothes in your clothes drawer before they fully dry. The reason for this is the water trapped with residue from suds generated by the regular laundry powder does not dry and bacteria forms on the tub and seals. Solution, toss out your leftover detergent for your top loader and buy "HE" type laundry detergent. The HE detergent is designed to generate fewer suds.

Vibration – The LG front load washer dryer hub spins at a higher rate than top load washers. This higher spin rate removes more water and gets the clothes closer to being dry. The high spin rate also comes with vibration, making it necessary to install the washer on a solid, level surface. It takes a little time to install LG front load washer dryer, because they are much bigger than traditional washers, and the washer has to be adjusted to sit perfectly level.

The LG has Spinsense to use to reduce the vibration on wood floors. It has been recommended that the best material to use to stabilizer a front loader is a stall mat (sold in horse feed & supply stores) that can be trimmed to fit and is rated to hold over 500lbs and usually gray. The stall mat is highly recommended for front loaders on a second story installation. A friend owns the duet and she says there is no vibration problem with hers, but hers is installed on a concrete surface.
